Interfacial Dynamics of Miscible Displacement of Shear-Thinning Fluid in a Vertical Channel

چکیده

The displacement of a shear-thinning fluid by denser and less viscous Newtonian in vertical duct is investigated using experiments numerical simulations. We study how increased viscosity contrast between the fluids affect displacement. Our results show that degree significantly influences development interfacial patterns growth perturbations. In weakly regime, progresses as stable with no visible instabilities. Increasing displaced result Saffman–Taylor type instability several finger-shaped channels carved across width duct. strongly unique finger an uneven interface formed middle fluid. This eventually breaks through at outlet, leaving behind considerably stagnant wall layers side walls. link onset fingering to fluids, stabilizing density difference, expressed modified, unperturbed pressure gradient for two fluids. Numerical simulations are performed both initial flat interface, perturbed we find good qualitative agreement experimental observations computations.

Miscible displacement fronts of shear thinning fluids inside rough fractures

The miscible displacement of a shear-thinning fluid by another of same rheological properties is studied experimentally in a transparent fracture by an optical technique imaging relative concentration distributions. The fracture walls have complementary self-affine geometries and are shifted laterally in the direction perpendicular to the mean flow velocity U : the flow field is strongly channe...

Degassing cascades in a shear-thinning viscoelastic fluid.

We report the experimental study of the degassing dynamics through a thin layer of shear-thinning viscoelastic fluid when a constant air flow is imposed at its bottom. The fluid is an aqueous solution of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and sodium salicylate (NaSal). Over a large range of parameters, the air is periodically released through a series of successive bubbles, hereafter named c...

Numerical Solution of Natural Convection in a Vertical Channel.

Natural convection between vertical parallel plates occurs frequently in applications such as solar collectors and cooling of electronic instruments. The problem is a two dimensional developing buoyant flow. In this work, the two dimensional conservation equations are solved numerically for constant wall temperature and constant wall heat flux. The results for the local Nusselt number at the du...
